Lisa Mainwaring
Senior Communications MANAGER
Lisa has more than 30 years’ experience in communications, media, journalism, broadcasting and storytelling, helping organisations and audiences understand complex issues and why they matter. She studied International Relations and Politics and began her career working in advertising - in London, New York and Sydney - with major international brands, before moving into journalism, broadcasting and strategic communications.
Lisa went on to build a wide-ranging media career as a reporter, newsreader, radio presenter, TV / radio producer and podcast host / executive producer - working across print, radio, television, podcasts and digital platforms. She has also taught Media Law to journalism undergraduate / post-graduate students. Her experience has included national and regional journalism, political reporting, programme-making and creating award-winning radio documentaries and podcasts.
Throughout her career, Lisa has specialised in turning evidence, policy and lived experience into stories that connect with people. She has worked with broadcasters, clinicians, researchers, policymakers, authors and campaigners, helping shape communications that inform public debate, influence decision-makers and inspire action.
Lisa also brings a deeply personal commitment to the Foundation’s mission. She is an adoptive mum and has seen first-hand how early adversity, trauma and disrupted attachment can affect children’s development, relationships and sense of safety. She is also a trustee of the Belay Foundation, which supports families raising children affected by developmental trauma.
Lisa believes communications can do more than raise awareness. It can change public understanding, challenge assumptions and help ensure babies receive the nurturing, responsive care they need during the 1,001 critical days of life, from pregnancy to age two. She is proud to use her experience in media, storytelling and strategic communications to help give every baby the best possible start in life.
